RALPH WALDO EMERSON TUFTED BED
An ardent advocate of individualism
The importance of the individual over the collective.
The concept that the will and desire of every individual has the power to shape the world. The 19th century poet and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson was an ardent advocate of individualism. With its highly individual and beautifully crafted details, the Ralph Waldo Emerson tufted bed is more than a fitting tribute to its brilliant namesake. The bed’s dominant feature is a huge, deep-buttoned leather headboard, each button tied by hand. The visual impact of this luxury bed is completed by a hand-twisted leather cord used to create a spiral edging feature.
A VISCERAL SENSE
OF HISTORY
Every contour, frame and button of a Fleming Howland bed is the product of furniture making expertise. No other bed can match its opulence or comfort. No other bed can match the visceral sense of history and heritage. The timeless appeal of Chesterfield beds makes them incredibly versatile, as flattering to a country home as they can be to a contemporary, urban apartment.

What exactly is a Chesterfield bed?
The term "Chesterfield bed", also known as a tufted bed, has become widely adopted to refer to the unique design elements of deep button tufting and a nail-head trim. It is important to distinguish between an authentic hand-pleated, hand-tied tufted bed crafted from solid beech hardwood and a machine-made replica that utilizes inferior materials.
