Every contour, frame, and button of a Fleming Howland bed reflects generations of furniture-making expertise. The Chesterfield bed carries with it a sense of heritage that feels both tangible and timeless, offering comfort with depth and presence. More than a place to rest, it becomes a defining element of the room itself.

The art of colour

It’s texture and colour that really sets these beds apart. Using a process unique to Fleming Howland, dye is massaged by hand into leather hides to add colour and celebrate the unique characteristics of each different hide. The result is a range of brilliant colours, from classic and understated to striking and vibrant.

Handmade in England

Fleming Howland furniture is hand made in England by experts dedicated to their craft and to the preservation of traditional manufacturing techniques. As all beds are made to order, dimensions, colour, and decorative detail can all be tailored to reflect different tastes and spaces. Each bed is a unique and stunning variation of a traditional theme.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I customize the size of my bed to fit any mattress?

Every bed is custom-made to order, ensuring that it can be tailored to accommodate any mattress size. If the desired size is not shown on our website, please contact us. Other bespoke changes include adjusting the height of the headboard, modifying the decorative stud finish and selecting any leather or fabric.

How long does it take to make a bed?

Timings are based on a production queue system and therefore subject to change. As a company that has been making furniture the traditional way since 1780, Fleming Howland will not compromise quality to cut corners. Refer to each product page for an estimated delivery time.

Are the beds easy to assemble?

Each bed is crafted with solid materials utilizing traditional frame building techniques. There are no slats or small parts. The frame of the bed is securely fastened at each corner using a bolt and steel bracket system. During assembly, all that is needed is to tighten the bolts with the provided allen key. The number of parts comprising each bed can range from 5 to 7, depending on its size and design. Assembly instructions will be provided.

What exactly is a Chesterfield bed?

The term "Chesterfield bed", also known as a tufted bed, has become widely adopted to refer to the unique design elements of deep button tufting and a nail-head trim. It is important to distinguish between an authentic hand-pleated, hand-tied tufted bed crafted from solid beech hardwood and a machine-made replica that utilizes inferior materials.
